SUN MICROSYSTEMS has got Oracle into a spot of bother and the business IT company has had to pay out $46 million because it turns out that its subsidiary it acquired last year told porkies to the US government earlier.
According to Reuters, the wad of cash for the US treasury brings to an end allegations that Sun's contracts with the General Services Administration (GSA) agreed a decade ago were erroneously priced because of inaccurate information given by the firm during negotiations.
Not only was the GSA hoodwinked but the US Postal Service was also taken in by the dodgy pricing information.
Sun Microsystems is also said to have paid systems integrator companies for recommendations that federal agencies buy Sun's products.
In a case of easy come, easy go, Oracle is expecting to make millions from SAP after it admitted it used Oracle's software without its permission, but some of that dosh will have to go straight to the US government.
The legal shenanigans kicked off six years ago when a whistleblower blew the whistle. And Sun is not the only bad apple, the Justice department has also accepted settlements with six other technology companies over porkie pies.
